I was really skeptical when I first heard of this new singing competition called the Voice. However, I must admit that I was VERY pleasantly surprised with the premiere episode. The premise is, basically 3 parts to the show. Part 1 is the blind auditions. In this part, the judges/mentors sit in high backed chairs facing the audience with their backs to the stage. The contestants come out once at a time and sing their song. If one of the judges/mentors like's what he/she is hearing, they press the button on their chair which then turns around and on the base "I Want You" lights up. The judges/mentors are Christina Aquilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.. They have THE most amazing chemistry! All are very quick witted and so hilarious! And Adam and Christina seem to have a "special" thing going. I absolutely LOVE this show. I think it is going to BLOW American Idol out of the water. In Part 1, the judge/mentors must pick 8 contestants to form a team. They will then take those 8 contestants aside and work with them on their next performance, which is for Part 2. In Part 2 2 of the contestants will battle head to head and sing the same song. The judges will then pick 1 contestant from each grouping to continue in the competition. The winners of these groupings will continue on to Part 3 of the competition. In Part 3 the 4 remaining contestants from each of the judges will perform again and this time American will call in and vote for who they like best. I'm not sure how many times this will happen. But I am down for the count!
So in Part 1, only 2 contestants weren't picked by the judges/mentors. And after turning around at the end of the songs, only one of the judges regretted that. Cee Lo Green wanted to change his mind because the contestant he passed on turned out to be a very beautiful Indian chick. But her voice was a 5 but her face was a 10. LOL And in that moment, we saw one example of the purity of this show. A singing competition show should be all about the singing. It shouldn't matter how pretty or slim or handsome or muscled one is. It should be all about THE VOICE. Thank you Mark Burnett for coming up with this show! I am a fan for life.
