Oh NO! Please God, say it aint so!!! There is a pork virus called Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED) that is hitting pig farms all across America. It is in now in 27 of the 50 United States. The PED virus is NOT transmissible to humans and poses no threat to humans at all. However, the virus causes vomiting and diarrhea in adult pigs but can be deadly to piglets therefore causing a shortage in pig populations. GASP! This cannot be happening! I need my BBQ ribs and pulled pork!!! Oh and pork chops and BACON! Oh GOD NO, NOT BACON!!!!! hahahahaha Okay that may be a little overly dramatic, but I think you get my point. hahahaha (And the Emmy goes to the chubby Queen in the white tank top! hahahaha)
The United States is the world's 2nd largest producer of Pork after China. Chinese bbq pork, mmm mmmm good...sorry I digress. hahahaha Anyway, only a small fraction of pork has been infected so far, only about 7 million pigs. In 2012, the US produced about 113 million pigs, so the 7 million is less than 10% of the total pigs taken to slaughter. But in my opinion, that's still too many pigs, that's 7 million less sets of baby back ribs and spare ribs and bacon and hams. Damnit!!!
