NY Deli Owners Steal Lottery Ticket Worth $1 Million Dollars

This story is sad but has a happy ending. Look, I know people are desperate in some places, the economy is rebounding finally, but not fast enough for some people. These 2 deli owners in NY, a father and son, Nabil and Karim Jaghab, were arrested for grand larceny. After Karim accepted a winning Lottery ticket worth $1million dollars from a customer. At first Karim gave the man, who spoke no English, $1,000.00 in cash, and the man left the store. Karim kept his ticket. The became suspicious the next day, probably from talking to his friends or family members and returned to the store demanding all of his winnings, so the father then offered the customer $10,000.00 and asked him not to go to the police. The article on Yahoo news doesn't say if the customer accepted the $10,000.00 or not, but in any event he went to the police and filed the theft charges. Good for him. So he's gonna get his $1 Million dollars after all. The father and son were released on $7,500.00 bond each. In another case,  out of Suffolk County, 2 gas station attendants tried to scam a man, also an immigrant who doesn't speak English, out of $74, 892.00 in prize money by giving him $774.00 in cash and sending him on his way. In yet a 3rd case out of NY, two brothers were arrested for stealing a lottery ticket worth $5,000,000,000.00 that was sold at their family's store, sold in 2006. In this case one of the brothers was convicted is doing up to 25yrs for his crime, both brothers were acquitted of conspiracy charges. I don't know why, if they both tried to claim the ticket, they had to talk about it and that is conspiracy! Stupid ass jury! But at least one of them is doing time for the crime. I think the lesson from these stories is first and foremost, sign the back of your ticket ASAP after you purchase it. Second, bring a friend when you turn it in to the clerk. Better yet, don't take it to a store, but go to the lottery office and turn it in. I saw a news show about how the lottery officials were testing stores about their honesty on the lottery. Most passed with flying colors, but there were a few who slim shady and got busted. Did you know that if a lottery retailer is caught stealing tickets or cheating customers, they immediately lose their license to sell lottery tickets and the lottery officials come in and take all of their lottery tickets and lotto machine. Then they are banned for life from ever selling lottery products again.
