3 SUNY New Paltz NY College Students Find $40,000.00 in Cushion of Lumpy Couch Bought at Salvation Army And Return It To Owner

You just never know what you are going to find when you go shopping at the Salvation Army or Good Will. I love to go thrifting and I always find nice bargains. But I have never lucked out like this trio. These 3 unnamed students had purchased a lumpy couch for $20.00 at the Salvation Army months ago because it was the only one that would fit into their apt. So time goes by and one day they notice a zipper in one of the couch cushions when they are trying to smooth out some of the lumps. Well they open the zipper and find an envelop with $4,000.00 in it , but wait it doesn't stop there. They reach back inside the cushion and find another envelop full of cash; all hundreds and fiftys and nothing else. Then they find a 3rd and 4th envelop and in the last one they find a deposit slip with a woman's name on it. So, being the good Samaritans that they are, they go looking for and find the woman whose name appears on the deposit slip. Turns out she is a 91 yr old widow who had broken her hip and while she was in the hospital her children had cleaned up her apt and donated the couch without her knowledge. Apparently, she didn't trust banks and had been hiding the cash in the couch. She was very grateful to receive the money back and gave the 3 students a $1,000.00 reward. I think she should have given each one $1,000.00. And maybe she shouldn't hide cash in her house. And her children definitely shouldn't be throwing out her things just because she gets hospitalized.
