Disney Cruise Ship Saves Man Overboard From Royal Caribean Crusie Ship!!!

Man Overboard! Disney Cruise Rescues Royal Caribbean Passenger from Ocean

Oh thank God, a Disney Cruise ship was in the right place at the right time. An unidentified 22 yr old passenger from Royal Caribbeans Oasis of the Seas Cruise ship fell or jumped overboard from his ship and luckily for him, passengers from Disney's Magic Ship saw him in the water and alerted the crew. The crew on the Disney Magic ship then dropped a life boat into the water and the man was able to swim to it and then the Disney crew was able to retrieve the man safely. Royal Caribbean confirmed the incident and detailed the rescue in a statement: “He was spotted by a crew member from another cruise ship, and picked up. We are grateful for the other ship’s assistance.”

The rescue sheds light on safety issues and whether ships should have technology that detects when someone on the ship goes overboard. Maritime attorney Jim Walker told Florida Today that this accident enforces his belief that ships need motion sensors and thermal detection systems that would indicate if someone goes overboard. I think there should be nets just above the water line like 10 feet or so, and then install motion sensors right at the bottom of the last row of balconies so that if someone falls overboard the nets would deploy automatically and catch the person b4 he/she hits the water. Because it seems like someone is falling overboard every couple of months lately. Something HAS got to be done to alert the crew as fast as possible that someone has gone overboard. I remember reporting a story about a 21 yr old who fell overboard just a couple of months ago. So sad, his body was never recovered. Hey cruise industry, get it together ASAP your passengers lives are at stake!!!

(Special Note, the Yahoo Article failed to mention where this happened, but I am assuming that it happened somewhere in the Caribbean, since that is where Royal Caribbean cruises. hahaha)
