Legendary Pop SuperStar Eydie Gorme, Dead at 84

Aww, this is so sad. But Legendary pop superstar Eydie Gorme passed away on Saturday afternoon after a brief illness. She was 84 yrs old. Eydie, who was born Edith Garmenzano was born in the Bronx NY to a Sicilian father who was a tailor and a Turkish mother, but Spanish was spoken in their home. Eydie had a gift for languages and shortly after high school got a job at the United Nations as a translator. But left that job when she got a tour singing with Tex Beneke's Big Band and a contract with Coral Records.

Eydie met her husband Steve Lawrence (original surname Leibowitz) in 1953 on Steve Allen's "Tonight Show", they married on Dec 29, 1957. They had 2 sons, David and Michael. Micheal predeceased her in 1986 from an undiagnosed heart condition. Eydie is survived by her husband, Steve, son David, a granddaughter and millions of fans. Rest in Peace Eydie!
